My boyfriend says he's worried about me, how do I make him stop?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for about a week, but we've known each other for a really long time. Yesterday he said that he was worried about me because I didn't seem very happy. I told him it was because I was stressed out, which wasn't a lie. But then he said that he wouldn't be happy until I was. I responded saying that just because I wasn't necessarily happy doesn't mean he shouldn't be, and that I could take care of myself. He said that he was still gonna worry, and didn't care if I could take care of myself, that he'd still be upset. Then we got into this huge conversation about cutting (because I've done that before) and how he was worried I might revert back to an old habit. I get that he cares, and is trying to make sure I'm okay. But how do I get him to back off a bit?

My husband has been worried about me for other reasons for a long time. Asking him to back off does no good. The only thing that helps is for him to *see* that I'm taking better care of myself. I suspect the same is probably true for your guy.

Take care of your stress issues, and let him observe you doing better. You can't convince him of anything. As he sees you taking better care of yourself, he'll relax more and more.
