Ex Boyfriend problems!

So I think I want to get back with my ex boyfriend and idk if he wants the same thing. He has said that we could get back together just not for awhile and then he like always has to justify, explain and apologize when he does things. Like he put that he went on a date on twitter and then he apologized for it and then he drunk messaged a girl I know who ended telling me and he was like I don't like her I was just drunk and she was the only one on Facebook. Could him always apologizing and feeling the need to explain everything to me be because he still likes me? Don't know what I do! I need help!

He is in some kind of low phase.so give him good company,talk about his problems he is facing now and wait till he is ok.
