Microwave popcorn

I have heard claims that microwave popcorn can be dangerous for bowel health (cancer etc) because it is "sharp". The claim is the microwave makes the kernels even sharper. But I have not been able to find any data on this. Is this just a rumor or is there any actual reliable information that it is true?

Popcorn itself is healthy. It's a whole grain.

The other stuff that gets put in the bag along with the microwave popcorn is of greater concern. Air poppers are better, but if you're going to microwave try picking up one of those popcorn popping bowls made for microwaves. You can put your own toppings on it, and skip the chemicals in the bag.

You can also pop popcorn in the microwave in a brown paper lunch bag.
