Was Chavez a "good" president for Venezuela?

While some Venezuelan claim love and respect for Chavez some pretend it is all a show and people are forced to participate in public events and show support.
So where is the middle line.. we're people starving and kept torture.. is it only a minority that live decently in Venezuela?

The middle line is in the most equal distribution of wealth.

Politicians are always loved by the people that benefited from their policies and hated by those that did not. I would expect that to be true in Venezuela also.
