How do I shrink my shorts?

I ordered a pair of high waisted shorts and they came in at least a size too big! I need to shrink them to about an inch smaller. They are denim distressed, jean shorts, again, high waisted. Any tips on how to do this properly would be helpful! Thank you!

Denim is made from cotton and it shrinks somewhat with heat. Try putting them in boiling water, cut the heat off and let them sit in the water until it is cool. After that run them through the washer and dryer with high heat.
