Yes, there are animal that can go with out food for years like cockroack,tarantulas & few insects,but there are some animals which eat once in 6-8 months that is if they eat in excess we can say mammals can't,we have mammals have greater metabolic rate this type of food habits could only be possible in lower class of animals like reptiles & few amphibians,Suppose if a python eats a large sized antilope which it oftenly does, it will take around 5-6 months to digest it's prey,it was noted that a reticulated python ate a person & went starving for an year in south east asia during that period of time it will barly move from one place to another so it prefers to sit under a tree mostly hiding or in water where it will highly mobile than on land.They have slow rate of metabolism like the tortoise hence it can live 200 years.
