I don't know where I want to move to, help please?

Husband and I are trying to figure out where to live in the United States. Simple, right? With 50 States to choose from its a 'no-brainer', right? Wrong.
Both my husband and I are very picky on where we want to live our criteria include:
*Not within a close distance of any recent violent shootings (New England, Oregon, etc.)
*Cannot be in Florida (we live here now, my husband HATES it)
*Has to be a city with over 1 million people. (preferably over populated such as NYC)
*Has to have a low rate of gun crime
*Has to have affordable housing (condo, or apartment, doesn't have to be a house)
*Isn't a "Southern State"
*Isn't a Republican State (Independent is fine)
*And finally, has to have Arts & Entertainment jobs. My husband is a Photographer and I am an Artist. I currently work at a grocery store part-time and do work on the side. My husband currently works for a funeral home, but wants to work for a Photography studio or eventually do his own work.
*Extra bonus, if the city has a healthy community of "Small buisnesses" if we ever had the opportunity

Any suggestions on any specific cities or States, please share.

New York City isn't Florida, has the population, anti gun laws, public housing, isn't a southern state, votes Democrat and has small businesses all over town.
