Hydrogen gas must be stored at very high pressure, 5,000 to 10,000 PSI. It takes a lot of energy to compress the gas to those levels which adds to the production cost and reduces the efficiency when compared to other energy sources. It costs a lot more to make tanks capable of holding such high pressures and a failure of the tank at those pressures, either from a defect or an accident, would be extremely dangerous.
