Does the law always protect people? If NOT, give the facts or examples, please

It would help if you would explain what "people" are being protected and what they're being protected against. "Always protect" implies that the government is responsible for anything bad that happens to you. That's nowhere close to being true. Individuals have a responsibility to think and make good choices. The law is not an insurance policy, it's more about keeping a level playing field between all of us.
