I like one of my friends but I dont know if he likes me

I have been friends with this guy from drama for 2 years and recently I descovered I like him more than a friend. He shows quite a few of the signs of when a guy likes you but when my friend asked him if he likes me he said "i wanted to just be friends". I'm really confused and I don't want to ask him outright if he likes me. What do I do?
