Cd/dvd drive is neither reading or writing any type of media?

when I insert a disc [dvd/cd] either blank or filled the disc rotates till I switch off the computer but doesn't give any response.
my motherboard dvd only works on my pc that too by taking more time [30 min app.] to read
Iam using windows 7 ultimate 32bit.
please help me!
