I want to serve my country is it a good idea?

I am married with one kid. I want to join the army, but im worried about leaving my family behind. will my wife be able to keep up with the bills and support my son. We average spending 2400 monthly now.. AFQT = 52 on my practice test. Will joining the army be good idea for my family.. reserve or active duty... or reserve and then active after a couple yearS? I want to serve in the military for my country, but only if its right for , family too.

do it man!!!!
This is an admirable thing to want to do. You and your wife could get really practical about the numbers. Would she have enough money to save? Do you already have a 6-12 month emergency fund? What happens if she loses her job and still hasn't found another one before unemployment runs out? Do you both have proper life insurance? What's her support network? I'd recommend talking to other families who have faced these issues: preferably some who have dealt with it well, AND some who haven't.
