Do I have to use borax?

I plan on making lotion. Many websites say that using beeswax won't work unless I use borax, is it true? Also, I found this recipe that used emulsifying wax instead of beeswax. I would like to use beeswax instead. If, for example, it tells me to put 1/4 cup of emulsifying wax, can I just substitute it with 1/4 cup of beeswax? Or is that just not the way to convert emulsifying wax to beeswax? If there is another way to substitute, please let me know about it. Thank you.

I like this lady's thorough write up on Borax safety and appreciate that she lists what other independent think tanks (EWG, MSDS, etc.) have to say about it.

I've used Borax for about 10 years to make homemade laundry detergent. I'm pretty happy with the stuff. When we first adopted our son, he was covered in little rash bumps that no one could get to go away. His grandmother tried every laundry detergent under the son, hoping to find something that didn't irritate him. My home recipe had him clear in no time. I don't think I've ever used it in lotion, though.

Anyway, here's an explanation of why beeswax isn't an emulsifier and it needs to be used with Borax:

And here are two recipes for beeswax lotion that do not require Borax (I just searched for "no borax beeswax lotion recipe"):

Also, a search for "make lotion" on YouTube showed several vids that look like they could be helpful.
