How to access pictures when I receive a message with a small box in upper left corner with red x

Frequently access a message, or a report with small RED x in upper left corner. What program do I need to download in order to access the picture or whatever ?

That's saying the message includes a link to the photo that either is a bad link or the settings on your machine doesn't allow downloading photos. If it does it on all photos, it's the settings. Look at the security or read settings (Tools/Options...) on your email program and make sure it's set to read messages in "HTML" not "Text only" format. The downside is that HTML is less secure so be careful to only click on stuff from sources you trust.

Sorry did not preface my question with fact that I am a male, 85 yrs old, with
very limited computer skills.

1. Tools on my system (xp professional) does not contain a link to options, and the link "internet options" does not guide me to your solution.

Can/will you please expand your solution to a "Dummie"?

Thanks for your response.

Sorry, the options have to be set in the program you are using for email. For example, if you're using Outlook Express, go to Tools at the top of the main page with the lists, then select Options at the bottom of the drop down list. Click the 'Security tab at the top.

Under "download Images," un-check the box labeled "Block images and other external content..."
