My grandmother is allergic to cotton wool bandages, is there any other substitute?

My grandmother has to have compression bandages applied every 3 days, unfortunately the nurses that apply the bandages only have cotton wool bandages which she has an allergic reaction to. Her skin becomes inflamed and as a result her leg ends up even more swollen. Her nurses claim that the cotton doesnt touch her skin and that it must be herself itching it. I know for a fact this is not the case, she spends 3 days of agony to have it all start again.
After consulting nurses, doctors and chemists for substitutes no one could provide her for any substitute which she is more than willing to pay for.
She is in a terrible state and I just want to help her, can anyone suggest anything, anything at all?
Thanks

I can only suggest some experiments. If it is an allergy, her skin should be allergic to the same materials all over her body. Put a small patch of the material somewhere away from her wound and a patch of the adhesive at a separate place. If you see here skin reacting to either, you know then which is causing the problem. If it's the adhesive, you can wrap it with elastic bandage to avoid using the adhesive. If it is the cotton wool material, look for some sanitary absorbent paper product. Maybe you could cut up some of the material sold under the brand name, "Depends." Any thing you do should be done with the doctor's approval.
