My washing machine is making a grinding sound smells like hot rubber and is smoking
It sounds like something is hanging it up, (probably on the spin cycle) causing the belt to burn on the pulley. It could be a bad bearing too. Unplug it, take the cover off and see if you can tell what's hanging it up. Some are accessed from the front and some from the back.
