Read the quote and reply, thanks?

this lady said this too me. "Jobs don't hire people - people hire people. If you seem too over qualified, they assume you will constantly be looking for another job and are not going to waste their time hiring and training you. Switch up your resume a bit so it is not so all about degrees and skills and more about your professional work ethic. You want to make sure it shows you fit into the position, not that the position fits you. Trust me, they want to see that you are smart, just not too smart."
So does this mean I have to dumb myself down, kiss butt, let people walk all over me etc...to get employment? I can do the work and will take whatever I can get, but it doesn't seem like being a professional etc... is what employers want. im lost.

When they hire someone smarter than they are, could they be hiring their replacement?

We usually don't consider over-qualified applicants because conventional wisdom/experience tells us they will likely not be satisfied with the job, will keep looking for a job, will clash with their supervisor, and make us refill the position soon. None of that is a good use of our resources... but we don't know candidates are over-qualified unless they tell us.

If you don't want to fall into that category, tailor your resume and cover letter to the specific job. I didn't say "dumb down." I said "tailor." The mistake many people make is they tell the employer *everything* about them (which wastes the employer's time) instead of demonstrating to the employer that they have exactly the skills and qualifications to do that specific job well... which is the only thing the employer really cares about.

It sucks out there. Keep your head up. :-)
