Why is a fuse used in a plug?

tech homework!:( stuck.

A fuse, used anywhere is a safety device. When a short exists in electrical equipment it will maximize the current flow creating heat that can damage the equipment and start fires. The fuse has a current limit that when exceeded opens the circuit and stops the current from flowing.

I'm not sure what kind of "plug" you're asking about. Some devices have ground fault circuit breakers on the power plug that serve the same purpose as a fuse.
