For many years, politicians have used our own money collected in taxes to buy votes to get them elected by increasing government services. When there wasn't enough money to fulfill the expensive promises they made, they borrowed trillions of dollars and collectively signed US taxpayers names to the loans. We are now to the point that 39 cents of every dollar the government spends is borrowed. It doesn't take a lot of math skills to figure out where this is headed.

Most everybody agrees that the government should operate from a balanced budget. The arguments are, who pays the taxes and what programs get cut to make it balance. Public attitudes say higher taxes are OK as long as I don't have to pay them and cutting out government programs is a great idea as long as my favorite program doesn't get cut. That's the dilemma we face. As the line from the famous Pogo cartoon said as he returned from over the hill, "I have seen the enemy and it is us."

I am very worried. Our government system is not working right now, even if it did in the past. We have to adapt to the changing times but those people in washington are determined not to do that. The way our system is set up, even we get a really good president or senator, or anyone else who has power, that person is at a disadvantage to try to make things better. Sometimes control (in moderation) is good. Without the government controlling big businesses, they would be charging even more ridiculus prices and paying way less to the workers, making money only for themselves. But right now, the government is caught up in its power and is going way to far.

exactly. My electronics teacher (he's a genious. litteraly) appaled some people by saying he was against abortion but didn't think it should be against the law. we asked him why and he said it was because he didn't want the government to have that power. if they did, the next president would to and only God knows how he could abuse that power. like forcing abortion to limit the children in a household. that really opened my eyes to the truth.
I'm only a teenager, and I fear the day I have to vote.
