I've been looking at recipes all over the net, and most of the shrimp and butternut squash soup recipes tell you how to make it from scratch. I have a container of organic butternut squash soup from the store, and I have a huge pack of shrimp. I would simply like directions on how to put them together and season them well. I plan to cook the shrimp separately with onions, garlic, and a little butter, and then dump it in the simmering soup. I gleaned the extra ingredients of sour cream and cayenne pepper from one recipe, but I don't know if I should add it. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Would diced tomatoes mess it up? What about a little sausage? Broccoli, perhaps? Without help it will be bland, and I want it to be flavorful!
Sausage and shrimp can be fantastic in the same soup! You've clearly never had Louisiana Gumbo (I'm not from there, but the food is great). Deep frying is unhealthy and out of the question, but I did decide to go ahead and include the shrimp after sauteeing it with garlic and onions. I seasoned the soup with a little cinnamon because I didn't have nutmeg (per the advice of a recipe I found), and it was delicious! Thanks anyways guys.

I wouldn't know but if youu can't find an answer then the best thing to do is experiment, make a small dish of it and use different ingredients and see what makes it taste good.
