Parents out there please read !

I had a question I have a 15 year old daughter, and was wanting to know if this is enough clothing she has since she's not a complainer. She has 4 long sleeve shirts no short sleeves ! 2 zip up hoodies, 1 pair of shoes that she has taken great care of for 4 years and 2 pairs of jeans that she has also taken care of for 4 years don't ask me how lol just regular forever 21 jeans. And 1 bra and 5 undies I don't belive in children under 18 should own more than 1 bra etc. Is this enough ????

A lot depends on where you live. Many kids today would consider that very sparse. If she's happy with it, that's what counts with the exception of a warm climate. In a warmer season it sounds like she could use something cooler than long sleeves and jeans. Maybe shorts and short sleeves?

I don't get your one bra limitation. I always thought kids need more of items that have to be changed and washed more often.

I am not sure what the cash issue is, but as for me I think we(adults)(children) need only enough cloths maybe for a week and half.

The reason I feel this way is because people have too many clothes and too lazy to wash them. They built up until someone washes them and it will be all day project. Also when people have too many clothes they are not being worn, when we have people who need clothes.

****As far as any form of underwear, I would change daily, because we sweat not only in the heat but also in the winter. Well some people do, it depends on your body. I would keep all forms of underwear clean and change daily to prevent B.O., Germs, rashes, or anyother skin problem. Some people have to change because of skin issues. I Would wear a pair of pants a couble of times in cold weather as long as they didn't get dirty, however, my forms of underwear will always change daily like I said. ****

What's ***
I'm also very confused by the undies situation.

Our daughter is at a special boarding school (behavioral issues) that strictly dictates what number/kind/color clothes the girls can have. She's allowed 8 daily bras, 4 sports bras, and 15 undies. That gets her through a week of class, physical activities, and the "monthly" accidents.

I guess 5 pairs of undies is ok if she does laundry every 4 days.

I've never heard of anything like your bra limitation, and I'm from an old-fashioned, conservative family. Bras get sweaty and are close to underarm land. Those need to be changed daily like undies, I would think, to avoid odor and clogged pores/sweat glands. It seems like the elastic would stretch out faster with daily wear and wash.

I have no idea what your financial situation is. Think about if she could be "making do" so she doesn't put extra strain on you. If you're really, really concerned, maybe give her a clothes allowance or some clothes shopping money and watch what she does with it.

Our kids' wardrobes consist mainly of school uniforms and a few other necessities. By choice, we shop when we need something, not because we want something. My husband has about 20 articles of clothing/shoes. I've got about 40. Our clothes are on the expensive side (although bought at discounted prices) and well made, and not trendy so we can look fine from season to season, and we take very good care of them so they'll last a long time.

People we know in our income bracket joke that if there was such a thing as upscale Amish, it would be us. I thought we were pretty frugal, but your daughter seems super frugal... but if she's happy, isn't cold or hot, and if she isn't getting teased/harassed at school, I suppose don't fix it if it isn't broken...

I know this question is from months ago, but I happened to run across a perspective different from my own and thought to share just in case...

The bras dont need to be sexy for a kid, but I think she should have a bra and panty for each day of the week. Nothing fancy. The rest is sparse, but if she is ok then ok. just watch her. If the clothes get holey or the shoes too worn, then replace them.

It seems a tad sparse to me. I think she could probably use some short sleeve shirts. Also, depending on your climate, she may need some coats.

I'm not sure I understand the bra issue. I agree with BrightStar that she would probably need one for every day of the week. And at least a weeks worth of panties.

It sounds like she needs more pants and shoes as well.

I'm thirteen and I have WAYYY more than one bra. having a lot of clothes doesn't make you spoilt, it depends on how you raise and talk to your child. I see the reason you limit your daughter to fashion and clothing is because you're afris she'll turn out as another bratty teenager with a walk in closet and a bag of make-up carried around with her at all times. Just because she has a variety go clothing to choose from doesn't mean she'll turn into a whore. I'm very sorry if I offended you in any way but I would like to point out that I own about 10 pairs of bras in different colours and patterns. I have matching underwear and I'm still a straight A student who studies after school, never hangs out outside of school, I don't own any piece of make-up and do not wish to plaster myself in any, I have a full wardrobe of clothes that I dress sensibly in and don't wear anything showy AT ALL. I have lots of simple elegant clothes and lots of hand me downs from my mother, and sisters, and friends.
