- watch how much in dept you go
- listen to her words, reactions, watch how she acts towards you. (good or bad)
- try to start it off simple and see where it goes.
- maybe even ask a friend to talk to her
- ask it in a question form. "Hypothetical"

I am sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Dealing with some issues here, but I wouldn't text. I would tell her in person, because you can see the feed back, and if it goes south. Well You can talk to you and tell you understand. Texting, you are being left with ? mark and she can just ignore you, if she's not down with it.
