My roommate never leaves the room?

Normally I don't care and let her do whatever she does in the room all day which is sit on the Internet. I usually try and stay out of the room as much as possible but today I was kind of half watching TV (I was on my laptop at the same time) and she asked me to turn it off because it was distracting her from her homework. This really bothered me because our university offers MANY places for her to study and this is my room too. Our dorm hall even has a study room. I turned the TV off for her because I wanted to be nice but I also told her that she could go and study somewhere else.

And now I am in the mood to continue a marathon of a show I was watching but I feel as though I can't because she will be bothered. I feel like this isn't fair since whenever she is doing something that is distracting me or annoying me I just leave the room and go to a study room in our student center or something. Should I be bothered by this or just let her do her homework?

You don't sound unreasonable. If the TV is equipped for headsets, that might offer a solution. Otherwise, I would try to work out a TV schedule with her where she goes to the study area during your TV hours.

Definitely- The headset is the answer so that you can not be accused of being distracting or annoying. Then after that "live and let live".

I agree that you don't sound unreasonable. Definitely go for the headsets. I'd also have a talk with her about setting up a schedule so you both can have alone time in the room. She's monopolizing it by always being there and you aren't getting what you need. It's very one sided and you both are paying big bucks for that one room. If she isn't amenable, or if you think she'll just get hysterical, ask your RA to mediate or to help you come up with suggestions.
