In a marriage, most of the initial euphoria dies down over time and the practical things come to the front. Make sure there are no deal breakers on subjects like having children, how they would be raised, religion, finances etc. Both of you should be willing to give ground on things that aren't a big concern to you and stand firm on things that might be a big issue in the future.

Two people who care deeply for each other can overcome a lot of obstacles but if you clearly understand how each other feels on the basic issues, it can make the journey much easier. The fact that you're concerned is a very positive sign. In some marriages these issues are first discussed in in a marriage counselor's office.

I totally agree with Rob's answer, but wanted to elaborate on the finances part.

I suggest having a serious conversation about it where you get down to the nitty gritty. What are your debts, spending habits, credit scores, obligations, etc? Is one of you more of a spender and the other more of a saver? Do you have similar financial habits? Do you have common financial goals? How would your joint financial lives look? How do you feel about giving financial help to aging parents, or siblings in need? How will you make financial decisions together?

Given the number of couples who divorce over money, this is a super important conversation/s to have.

Communication is the key to an honest, open and healthy marriage.
As you have begun these steps, it sounds like you both might be good candidates for marriage.
But don't rush in, most divorces are for this reason alone.
Best of luck and when do I get an invite?. hehe;)
