What pragmatic steps an individual can take to fight against economic disparity?

Economic inequality hurts poor people. It also hurts rich people who are sensitive to plights of poor. Ground reality is that inequality can not to eliminated entirely. Society against inequality(SAI) would like undertake programs which attempt to reduce inequality and its impact on poor. You can make people economically equal by either pulling the poor up or pulling the rich down. Obviously the first option is a better choice. That can be done by education, not just the things we learn in school but educating the poor on salable skills, money management and self reliance. When you make good choices for yourself, you move up. That can and should be taught.

ya if u look at the money we spend on colone and perfume in a yeae it would take about half to feed, give good water to,and educate all the poor in the world. so by less perfume and colone:)
This is something I've always been sensitive to. My approach has been to build businesses, create jobs, mentor, volunteer, be philanthropic, be kind, and live frugally. When I do make purchases, I stay away from big brands (except Apple, Eileen Fisher and e.l.f.) at all costs and support local businesses, and purchase second hand or ecological, sustainably-produced goods. I do my best not to buy goods or services that directly disenfranchise others.

SkyDancer, I am glad to know that you are as sensitive as I am about the issue. Whereas rich enjoy economic disparity, poor consider it as fait accompli , middle class considers it as part of game. Hence the issue lacks extent of activism it deserves. Why not become member of Society against inequality by logging in at http://in.groups.yahoo.com/group/Society_against_inequality/ and contribute for the cause.

The first to get hurt during an economic crisis is the poor, governments don't want the poor in society, the rich on the otherhand, we can't pisss them off in case they move elsewhere and pay taxes in another country.
