I have an older riding lawn mower that starts fine but when I put it into gear it stalls???

That sounds like a transmission problem. Is it possible that something could be blocking the blade or drive train so it's seized up? Most small engines will die when the output locks up because it depends on the engine turning to produce a spark.

The blade is ok and free when I turned the mower over to check !!! But what happened yesterday when I was using it before this happened... I was mulching my leaves (I have a leaf chatcher on the back of the mower.) and it got all cloghed up it the plastic tube, and it started smoking from the belt burning...

What do you think I did ??? And what can I do to fix it ???

Please Help Me ! ! !

Thank You, and have a great Holiday,

If it was smoking at the belt, it's locked up as I said before. First, Remove the belt (to make sure it doesn't start accidentally), Then look at the drive wheels and the output shaft that supplies power to the mulcher and the blade. Either one of them is jammed or else something's stripped out in the transmission. You may have to disconnect them from each other to figure it out. What you're looking for is the one that is frozen tight and won't move. For example, if the wheels move with the belt off, they're not jammed. If you can turn the transmission input pulley and the output shaft turn's that's not it. It's the one that doesn't turn.

Understand that I have no idea how yours is made so some of the above may not make sense.
