#1. Find a recipe for a nutritious snack for young children. Prepare the recipe with a child for the Taste of Nutrition and take a photo to send to me and the class. Email a copy of the recipe and photo to each of your colleagues. The recipe should be nutritious and appealing. Children should be able to assist in the preparation and independent serving of the snack. Make sure steps to the recipe are simple enough for children but complete enough for them to follow the steps. When doing in a classroom, put directions on a poster board with picture and word directions. Be creative. This should be a fun and creative way to get kids to enjoy a nutritious snack!
#2. How can the teacher support good nutrition for the child and the family without offending any physcal traits, beliefs, or cultural differences? Think about the various ways of teaching the child and communicating with the parents.
#3. Discussion: Discuss how you might handle the following mealtime behaviors: 1. Child refuses to eat any vegetables. 2. Child only eats macaroni and cheese and then asks for more. 3. Child makes rude noises and/or talks during meal and does not finish eating.
#4. How can you encourage your classroom to cooperate and work together?
