Being Prepared

Devising a hypothetical plan that could help prevent both hardware and software disasters. Please include the following:
Identify a common threat.
What steps should be taken to minimize the threat?
What kinds of documentation are necessary to ensure procedures are followed by other IT staff if the administrator is not available?
Srry everyone for the lengthy question, just rlly desperate here and figured I try my luck, and see if anyone could help. But anyway thks if ya can help.

Wow! Thanks!

The most common threats are Mal-ware and hardware failure. You have to consider the value of the data and the skills of those doing the backups. If it is critical information that has to be backed by people with questionable skills, automate the process by making part of the shutdown a button labeled "Backup" that pops up and runs code that shells out to a batch file that will copy the data to another machine on the LAN.

Set your machines up with a partition or multiple drives with the operating system and program files on the root drive and data on the next drive. Make a mirror image of the root drive and put it on the second drive so the root can be restored when it becomes infected or when it malfunctions. You can copy the image and the data to a flash drive stored in a fireproof location for extra protection.

It will help if you have a policy that disallows surfing on critical machines.

For documentation, put a sign over the machines labeled, "Click the backup button before shutting down!" :-)
