Why can't I get an internship?

Okay so for the longest time I've been sending out my resume and applying to many different internships that I'm interested in but haven't had any such luck, is there some type of trick to getting an internship? Does anyone have any tips of some kind that could help me out?

Thank you :)

Gee, it's hard to say without knowing the industry or seeing the resume. I can't say if it's how you're marketing yourself, or if your field is over-saturated. Can you tell us more without giving identifying info?

At my firm, we've seen a tremendous increase in intern portfolio submissions... for web it's been nearly 6 fold. For a summer marketing intern position that usually got maybe 30 applications with about 30% being worth consideration, we received over 100 with 50% making it to the "second look" pile.

Usually students applied for those roles, but we're seeing recent graduates apply now. It seems that more recent graduates are not able to get a good first job, so more are turning to interning to build their portfolios as a last resort. That may be happening in your field.

Probably the same reason I can't get a job in my field. There are too few opportunities in this economy. HR departments don't even act like that piece of paper in front of them represents the professional life and accomplishments of an actual human being. Good luck. You're definitely not alone.
