It depends on the context.

Generally, I think it's really rude. I was brought up in a family that didn't believe in conspicuous display of wealth. We were taught to never let anyone know how much money you have... or don't have...

If you're with friends and need to swap information about locating goods or services, discussing ranges can be helpful.

I think what it really comes down to is WHY you're talking about the money. If it's to make yourself look superior, or make others feel inferior, then no good will come of it.

I agree with skyDancer. As my grandfather used to say, "If your accomplishments can't speak for themselves there's no reason for you to try to speak for them."

People that are lucky enough to be worry-free about money should always be sensitive to those who are less fortunate.

No. That's why I totally don't understand those "haul" videos on YouTube! They look like useless bragging to me.

Talking about money and all the great stuff you can afford is really insensitive when you're around people who either don't have any money or don't have as much as they had before the economy tanked. I used to make 6 figures, then I got laid off, my whole project did. I'm LUCKY to have the office job I have now answering phones, and it took me a year to find that. I defiantly don't want to hear about someone's cool vacation or fancy new car or whatever. That just makes people sad, and you never know what situation people are really in.

I think that there is a time and a place to talk about your stuff. It would be ok to tell your friends What you got for your birthday or maybe for christmas. But it can be dangerous and cause a lot of conflicts if you tell the wrong person/people.
