Why is my PS2 messing up?

This thing is really pissing me off. I have a slim ps2 that I bought 2 years ago, I've never had any problems until now. I want to play God of War but all I get is a skipping sound, cleaning the lens gets me the same result. Marvel vs Capcom 2 does the same but time to time I get it working by cleaning the lens. And now it won't play my PS1 games anymore. I really don't know what's wrong or how to fix it.

Sounds like the laser that scans the disk is going bad. The same thing happened to my Gamecube a few years back. There really isn't a way to fix it. You'll have to get a new one.

So it can't be repaired then. I used a lens cleaner cd the other day and mvc2 worked first time. I'll see if I can get it looked at and go on from there.

In theory it could be fixed, however, you would have to replace the laser that scans the game disc. Another thought is that the calibration of the laser if off which will cause the PS2 to not play games. The best thing I can think of would be to take it to somewhere like Gamestop to see if they could fix it.
