Why are there so many gay people in the world

There is not really a reason as to why people are gay. It's just the way of life. Nobody simply chooses to be straight, gay, bisexual, ect. It's like asking why are there so many straight people in the world. There is no reason. Don't hate on gays either. If you were gay, then you wouldn't like it. I doubt you would. But like I said, people are gay, straight, or bisexual because of the way of life.

There really aren't that many. It's tough to know exactly HOW many there are because in most cultures there are serious social repercussions for identifying as lgbt. A rough estimate you hear often is 10%. For the sake of argument, let's say that's accurate. If so, that's only 1 out of 10... which means 9 out of 10 aren't. 1 out of 10 is not "many".
