Finding birth parents

If you were adopted from a foreign country, and do not have much information on when you were younger, is it possible to find your birth parents?
-Adopted from China about 13 years ago, but do not know where to begin-
-Only know that I was found in hospital (Beijing) when I was a few months old-
-Know that I lived in an orphanage for a few years (3-4 years)-

It is possible but not easy.

The first step would be to contact the hospital and the orphanage and ask if they have records. The degree of difficulty will largely depend on that. I would also join the Yahoo China Birth Family Group at the link below. They know the procedures and pitfalls specifically related to China.

You should also understand that not every birth family search ends with a big group hug in an airport somewhere. You risk rejection and sometimes exposure to haunting stories you might rather not hear. Good luck.
