Questions about owning a Pit Bull?!?

I'm wondering about getting a Pit bull. I will be moving shortly, hopefully, to a house with a fenced-in yard (if not I will not be getting a dog) and am looking into this breed. I have been around them so I know what they're like, and I'm somewhat familiar with them. I've researched a lot, but nowhere can I find the answer to this question! I know to own them requires basic training and socialization. I've trained Husky and other similar dogs, so I know what to do as far as training and that goes.
My question is this:
Would a Pit bull be okay if left home alone for short periods of time? It would be no more than a few hours at most, while me or my bf are at work. The dog would be getting lots of daily exercise, such as walking, jogging, playing in the backyard, swimming at the lake and running around on my grandparents farm. By no means would (s)he be starved for exercise. I just need to know if this breed is also calm/lazy/independent enough to sleep or otherwise entertain itself during the couple hours it will be alone. Anyone with experience owning Pits would be of great help!

If you think that the breed wouldn't do well if left alone (for short periods of time, NOT all day) then suggest a breed that might suit this lifestyle?

Also, we've ruled out the possibility of a cat, as several of my family are allergic. Thanks for your help!

A pit bull, raised from a puppy, would do fine in that situation and being a short hair breed, would be better in a household with allergies than one with long hair. The negative side is the cost of insurance. Since so many pit bulls have been trained to be aggressive, homeowners insurance rates are high if they will write the policy at all.

Sometimes it depends on the actual dog that you get. Each individual dog has its personality. For example: my dog is a chocolate lab but she doesnt like water. As long as their is shelter for the dog to rest in/ under then they should be okay.

Pit bulls are agressive dogs, they were not bred to be nice/homely animals they were riased to be fighting dogs. If a Pit Bull is raised correctly they sould be family dogs. These dogs are known for being hyperactive, anything but lazy or calm and they are loving (if raised properly) so they will keep themselves entertained. Also I hope that you realise in certain countries such as England without a legitimate licence to own one, also they rank firts on the most dagerous dog list in england and in some parts of the USA.
