In order to search beyond what is within their normal view, they must have, "probable cause: enough evidence to convince a reasonable person that some kind of crime is/has been committed."
Then I would have to have done something to have em search my computer? Cause I haven't done anything that relates to my mom abusing me...
If the computer is your property and you don't have anything in plain view that would give them reason to believe you are committing a crime, they can't search it.
If, in the process of a criminal investigation, they have reason to believe there is evidence pertinent to the investigation on your computer, they can present their probable cause to a judge and get a search warrant. They have to explain what they are looking for and how it is related to the investigation.
