Repair screw hole in mdf door

My closet door is made of MDF. The door handle has pulled out. I want to repair the screw holes and then screw the handle back in. MDF, unlike wood, doesn't take to repairs like wood puddy. What is the best substance to use to fill up those screw holes so I can redrill them again and have the screws hold?

I'm sure by now you understand that particle board or MDF isn't the ideal material for constructing anything that has to hold screws.

Find a dowel rod that will insert tightly in the hole or drill a hole that will fit the rod. Cover the outside of the rod with a hard set glue like contact cement or epoxy.
Drive it into the hole and let it sit for about 24 hours,
Drill the center of the rod a tiny bit smaller than the shaft of the screw so it threads up tightly, then replace the knob.
