Don't get so frustrated. He apparently is interested in you already short hair and all. Do the best you can with it and make up for it with charm, sensitivity, and class. Don't make the unhappiness of your hair the topic of the night. Enjoy yourself and make him feel comfortable. If he's a good guy he'll look at you for you and not your hairstyle.
