I realize there are a lot of people that will disagree with this citing "the spirit of Christmas" but the simple solution is to give them the money and let them get what they want. So much of the money spent for Christmas gifts is wasted on things the recipient would have never bought for themselves and will never use.

If you want to make the real spirit of Christmas part of it, do something for them or make them something with your own hands. That will go much farther at showing you care than imported socks, ties and scarves.
