That question assumes that either a chicken or an egg just appeared on earth in one poof! The truth is neither came first, they evolved from a lower life form that took thousands of years to develop into the current form using eggs for their reproductive system. The answer is they came together.

Yeah! The chicken evolved from a reptile. The feathers are modified scales. Lizards lay eggs, just like birds do. So, the first chicken came from the egg of a reptile (well, maybe not a chicken, but a bird of some sort, and then evolved into a chicken--from an egg).

Im a tad late to this question. I would answer that the egg was first. For example:
A dinosaur lays an egg. Inside that egg is a changed dinosaur. It goes on like that for generations until you eventually reach the chicken.
