Some people have argued that it was for political reasons, others say was that it was because he was near the end of his life. I've always felt that all of Dante's writings are an example of the quality of the good Italian wine in the medieval period.

Dante wrote La Divina Commedia because he had a very powerful and spiritual vision of the Trinity that he writes about at the end of the epic poem. This is the same spiritual vision that is generically written about in the first chapter of Genesis esoterically.

Dante Alighieri wrote La Vita Nuova and La Divina Commedia as commentaries on the first chapter of Genesis. Reading the first chapter of Genesis in the vernacular will tell you nothing unless you read it esoterically. I broke La Divina Commedia mathematical system in 1995 and since then I have written a trilogy of book on the Esoteric Science and in each book plus an academic paper I outline this very sophisticated mathematical system, which is the same mathematical sytem used to structure the Judeao Christian scriptures. Dante journey through the three realms of spirit is the journey of the soul/psyche back to the transcendent. See my website www.williamjohnmeegan.com
