For most grass seeds, just broadcast the seed on the ground. If the area is bare, cover it with a thin layer of topsoil otherwise scratch it in with a rake. For Bermuda, it works better to mix the seed with the topsoil first, since it's very fine like pepper and can blow away before you get the dirt on it.
Zoyzia and St Augustine must be planted from plugs spaced 12 to 18 inches apart or in full cover sod. They propogate by producing runners across the surface.
Add water and sunshine.
