Why does the sims 3 ambitions game keep crashing to my desktop once in live mode to play?

I purchased the sims 3 ambitions and my system was windows vista basic and it crashed then I upgraded to windows 7 and it still crashes to the desktop. Prior to getting windows 7 I was able to play the sims 3, along with the other expansion packs on my windows vista. Please help if you know the answer
