using someones credit card without the owner knowing it.

The owner of the account can view an itemized list of their charges online at any time. They also get a list each month with their statement. They can notify the card company to flag the card if someone else has used it.

The charge card companies also monitor incoming charges using computer algorithms that look for high risk activity. One example, if two charges are made on the same card 15 minutes apart when the distance between the two stores is 400 miles, it will shut the account down because you can't travel 400 miles in 15 minutes.

Once a card is flagged, the system will return a fraud code when an attempt is made to use it and you run the risk of being caught if you try to use it again.
