When I was younger, my family went to the local cemetaries and put flowers on aunts, uncles, etc graves. Never was it mentioned that the day was for fallen soldiers. Why do we decorate loved ones graves on memorial day that didn't serve in the military?

Memorial day is a day to remember loved ones lost. As a nation, it is a way for us to remember the sacrifices that soldiers made for our freedom. It is also a time to remember loved ones who have died.
