it will not play, search forward or reverse, the picture is froze on the screen, but like I said the vcr side works perfect. Any help???

Sounds like you've got a DVD stuck in the drive.
Remove ALL power from device by unplugging it for 30 seconds. Re-connect the power and then press the OPEN button. The DVD drawer should open and you can then remove the DVD.
