Why do the cooks on the Food Network use towels instead of hot pads?

A lot of people who cook at home use towels and dishcloths to hold hot items. Perhaps they can't afford to buy hot pads, or the ones they have are dirty, wrecked, or missing.

A lot of people still cook the way they did at home when they are on TV. They don't need a reason. My grandfather used to always take stuff out of the stove with his bare hands... I was very impressed as a child.

Plus... towels are awesome!
