The name of a circa 1930's film about a man and woman seperated in youth but reunited as adults

I remember watching a circa 1930's film where a boy and girl lived next door to each other in France. The boy was orphaned and had to move to England with his uncle. He returned to France many years later as an Architect and was hired by a man who married the girl he once knew and lived next door to as a boy. They fell in love and when the girls husband found out he killed himself and made it look like the Architect did it. The Architect was sentenced to prison, and he and the girl would visit in each other's dreams. Has anyone else seen this film and can you tell me the name of it?
