Where can I get free traffic

i need to know where I can get or find free traffic to my website

You just have to advertise your site. Don't be a jerk about it, like don't advertise it here, and don't spam it on forums or chat rooms, but just like, link to it in your signature on a forum and then be an active member. The best way to generate traffic is word of mouth though. You tell two friends, they tell two friends, etc... If you have an advertising budget, then go to some big time sites and rent some ad space. Also, hypothetically speaking, let's say your website is about a football team. Well go find a chat room about that football team, and when someone brings up something about the team, say, "Oh yeah, you can read more about that on my website: (insert url here)" just don't overdo it or people will get annoyed with you.

It depends on what kind of traffic you need. Traffic, in and of itself, is useless. If you're trying to get people to a website about body building then don't waste your time on pet owners.

That said ...

1) Find forums about your topic and start becoming active in it. Most forums will let you put a 3 or 4 line "signature" after your posts or comments. Give information of value in your posts and comments. You might also find groups on Yahoo, Google, Facebook and others.

2) Write 400 to 800 word articles about your topic and post them in article directories such as ezinearticles

3) Set up pages at sites such as Squidoo or Hubpages

4) Answer questions at sites like eHelp.com :)
