Why wont my itrip charge my new ipod?

Well I don't know about the modern iTrip, but back in the day, the iTrip was a device to use your iPod with a radio. If this is still the case, well, it doesn't have anything to charge the iPod with, it has no internal power source, it takes its power from your iPod. If anything, it'll make your iPod die faster.

my itrip did charge my 2 or 3rd gen ipod, it is powered by the cig lighter
