What symbol on an a makes it a sharp a?

I'm thinking about naming my daughter Alaina, but want to spell it Alana. My husband's dad died and she'll be named in honor of him. We just want to get the proper symbol on the letter a to make it sound right. Thanks!

I implore you, don't do that to her. It's such a pain in the butt in terms of official paper work (drivers license, etc...) when you have odd symbols (or any symbols really) in your name. Oh by the way, now that I think about it, the term is accent mark, not symbol. But anyways, do your future daughter a favor, just name her Alana and she can tell people it's pronounced Alaina (if she prefers it).
